5 Great Floral Swing Dresses for Spring / Summer from Miss Fortune!

Tis the season to wear florals!  We’re loving the current spell of warm weather in the UK, we can finally start to break out the summer wardrobe!  It’s been so lovely I’ve even been tempted to buy a garden parasol, think positive, I say!

We’ve got 5 new floral print dresses so far this season in a variety of colours to suit all tastes!

One Fine day!

First off we have the One Fine Day Dress in Cream Rose and Red Rose.  A wing bust swing dress with halter neck ties in complimentary plain cotton.  The dresses come with the elastic belts so you just need a petticoat to finish off the look!

Lady Luck!

Next up we have 3 new additions to our popular Lady Luck range.  We’ve been listening to your requests for a greater variety of colours and as such we have pick out a really fresh spring green and pale sky blue for 2 of our new colourways of the Lady Luck swing dress.

We were really excited to be involved in the Pinup Pageant run by Di Brooks of Outer Limitz at the Hemsby Rock ‘n’ Roll Festival again this year!

Our Pinup

Our contestant representing Miss Fortune this year was Emma Lou who has modelled for us in the past at the Americana International Rockin fashion Show.

The Contest Rounds

The 2 rounds of the contest were to have themes, the themes being ‘Barbie’ and ‘Classic Pinup’.  We got straight to work researching some classic Barbie outfits and images of classic pinups!

Inspiration

We decided to directly recreate 2 outfits from a classic Barbie outfit and a painting of a classic pin up.

For Barbie we picked one the outfits from the year Barbie was launched, 1959.  An outfit called ‘Cotton Casuals’.

For the classic pinup we looked Gil Elvgren, master of the pinup painting!  You can see more of his work here and see some of the original photos the paintings were inspired by:

The painting we chose was the 1949 “I’ve been spotted”.

The Barbie Outfit

We were lucky to find just the right striped fabric for the dress!  We decided to customise the dress with red detailing and straps, it gives it a nautical feel, which we thought was nice for spring.

We went for a fitting with Emma Lou at the studios of Miss Rain Photography and had some photos taken after the fitting.

The Classic Pinup Outfit

First up, we decided to change the colour of the outfit in the image to a super girly, baby pink/black.  Then there was the challenge of making the top from the painting ‘come to life’, as the way it is in the painting is slightly unrealistic for a real garment.

We decided to try and recreate the pose in the painting in the studio!

On With The Show!

With a few last minute tweaks to the outfits completed we packed them off with Emma Lou along with 9 packs of hair flowers and lollipops and hair flowers for the 9 contestants in the show.

We didn’t get to go to the festival ourselves to see the show but here are some photos we’ve gathered from around the web!
